When you step back from the raw code and look at Gearbox as a business entity, the picture is incredibly bleak. DeFi is an ecosystem that thrives on momentum and liquidity, and Gearbox has completely lost both.
The math simply doesn't work. Watching a team burn through nearly $900,000 a year in operational expenses while pulling in less than half of that in revenue is a massive warning sign. They are subsidizing a ghost ship out of their treasury. For casual investors, buying into a token with zero holder revenue and a daily trading volume of under $2,000 is a recipe for getting trapped in an entirely illiquid position.
The initial praises of Gearbox's security and composability belong to its past. Users can borrow against collateral and amplify positions across protocols like Uniswap, Curve, and Lido, but leveraged positions can be liquidated within seconds during sharp market swings. Since Gearbox also depends on external protocols and price oracles, a bug, exploit, or oracle failure elsewhere can quickly cascade into losses for Gearbox users. Another concern is governance concentration, with over 40% of the 10 billion GEAR supply initially allocated to the team and company, giving insiders significant influence. On top of that, the token itself has lost more than 98% of its value from its all-time high, showing that strong protocol usage hasn't translated into long-term value for holders. If you're buying GEAR, you're betting on governance and future adoption—not the leverage engine itself.

But the token has been crushed down after reaching its all time peak of $0.037 the price entered a brutal decline and collapsed over 98%, trading at $0.0004 price, The token doesn't do anything else It is not used for gas fees and it pays zero rewards to holders unless user plan to actively vote on complex risk math for a leverage protocol, the token is functionally useless for a trader.
