The project is heavily funded by institutional investment firms, raising $19 million in private funding rounds, because private VCs own a large percentage of the network's supply at cheap private entry price, regular retail buyers have zero governance power, The price trends are heavily controlled by that whether these VCs hold or dump their allocations. IRYS is competing against already established crypto networks as Arweave and Filecoin, even newly launching networks has more active developers than IRYS network, because the project had a massive marketing budget, much of the early social media trend and hype was made up through paid influencer promotions, community airdrop campaigns, and exchange launchpad events than organic, strong product usage. IRYS token has use case it's not a complete useless coin it's used as Native gas fee token for transaction and smart contract interaction and project also has burning mechanism to reduce supply the large amount of fees from transaction are permanently burned, but the locked supply is still a big concern.

Irys infrastructure matters for AI, media, and data-heavy on-chain apps but token allocations are not especially light and community demand still looks partly launch-driven.
