IOTA Review: OG Score & Community Audit

Iota is oldest platform with main net launched in 2016 this gave iota genuine trust of investors and community, Its zero fee design from its original Tangle architecture is a genuine advantage for IoT style microtransactions between billions of devices which most of block chains can't do.
The problem is team is building strong real world assets based tech but it's not including current niche and hyped tech which is also in demand like Ai and ai agents and token is getting crushed while project itself facing competition from leading tools including chainlink and hedera, even new development and tech isn't helping IOTA token and there is no strong recovery has been seen.
Basically IOTA is genuine old project but it's token is completely opposite extremely volatile and 97% down from 2017 peak price it's not bad using iota tech but keeping distance from token is much safer.

i feel everyone is frustated at this point.. x comment is full of negative comment.. most likely because of how bad the project has ben performing.. also the biggest problems: the project has changed direction a lot. The original pitch was a feeless IoT network built around the Tangle. With Rebased, IOTA is now moving toward Move, EVM, staking and a more conventional validator-based model. The upgrade may improve the network, but it also puts IOTA into a much more crowded L1 market.
The 2023 supply expansion is another trust issue. Increasing the token supply after years of users treating IOTA as a fixed-supply asset understandably created backlash. Even if the additional supply is intended to fund ecosystem growth, changing an important economic assumption after the fact can damage confidence.
There is also the Shimmer problem. Launching a separate staging network made sense technically, but it created another token, another ecosystem and another liquidity pool to maintain. When development priorities shift back toward IOTA, it raises questions about what role Shimmer ultimately serves and whether resources are being spread too thin.

When evaluating a long term crypto holding, trust in governance and monetary policy is critical. IOTA’s decision to print hundreds of millions of dollars worth of tokens to fund internal foundation operations broke the foundational trust of its holder base. While the pivot to Move based architecture makes the protocol more functional today, it turns IOTA into just another smart contract network that has failed to fufil their staking promises in 2023, competing directly against heavily funded modern platforms. It no longer holds the unique technical moat it once claimed with its original Tangle design. Holding IOTA means accepting that executive leadership can alter total token supply(Minting Contract) , abandon sub ecosystems, and pivot the tech stack whenever financial or technical roadblocks emerge. For most retail and institutional investors, that level of centralized control makes the asset far too risky compared to alternatives with fixed tokenomics and true decentralized governance. Sentiment across community hubs like Reddit and X has turned sharply negative. Many long term holders explicitly refer to the project as a sinking ship or an abandoned ecosystem where retail investors are left holding devalued assets.

IOTA survived its mid life crisis. By ditching the broken tangle for "Rebased" tech, it gained staking and real RWA utility. It's no longer a feeless dream, but a working institutional reality.

IOTA the real story is the Rebased upgrade, By bringing in Move smart contracts and multi chain connectivity $IOTA has reshaped itself into a unique interoperable Layer‑1 and data focused infrastructure. The upside is real but it only materializes if developers actually build on its feeless, high TPS design, something few DeFi or IoT platforms truly support today.

The DAG/Tangle approach was ahead of its time for feeless, scalable IoT/DePIN use cases, and the shift to Move + EVM makes it more developer-friendly and interoperable. I see Real adoption and ecosystem growth give it few time, especially if IoT explodes or RWAs take off.

IOTA’s tangle technology offers innovation beyond blockchain, but adoption struggles persist. The roadmap is impressive, featuring collaborations with EU initiatives, though tokenomics and the network's past security flaws detract slightly.
