Optimism (OP) Review: OG Score & Community Audit

February 2026 broke this project. Base left the ecosystem taking 71% of revenue with them. Coinbase decided independence beats collaboration. The buyback plan relies on fees that vanished overnight. Plenty of chains still use the tech, but if your biggest user can just leave whenever, you're not essential you're optional 🚫

Premier L2 tech with a strong ZK roadmap. However, the Base pivot and constant token unlocks make OP a high-dilution risk despite its technical brilliance.

Optimism is positioning itself as a Superchain, a network of OP Stack based chains such as Base, Unichain, Ink and others. The combined ecosystem TVL 14 billion USD(op mainnet= 416M) *defillama The benefit to OP holders comes from sequencer revenue. OP Stack chains generate transaction fee revenue in ETH. Since February 2026, a governance approved pilot program allocates 50 percent of net sequencer revenue to monthly OP buybacks, with the remaining 50 percent used for ecosystem funding and operations. This creates recurring demand for OP and links the token to Superchain economic activity. But its also a truth that L2 competition is fierce and it's still a question that whether this can ease sell pressure or flame it

From my perspective, Optimism stands out as one of the more legitimate Layer2 ecosystems, backed by real engineering, meaningful adoption, and solid integrations. That said, the community sentiment feels somewhat mixed at the. moment. While institutional and developer support remains strong, retail participation and speculative interest are still relatively weak. Ongoing technical challenges such as sequencer centralization and upgrade friction also highlight that the network is continuing to evolve rather than being a fully mature solutions.

Optimism is a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum, helping transactions become faster and cheaper without losing Ethereum’s security. It’s growing fast with more apps and DeFi moving there. For users, it’s smoother and cheaper, while developers get easier tools to build. The tech is solid, but as always with crypto, prices can swing. Long-term, it looks promising for Ethereum scaling.

well... the bear market didn't treat so well to the Optimism, also the dramatical raise of Layer 2 numbers has fueled the dump, Optimism. I'm lowering the Gem score but still positive about the $OP price (it can still recover but there aint huge potential) and the development adding that they need to be more open to the newcomers and make funding procedure less tiring so that new emerging projects can thrive in the ecosystem and be an Optimism ambassador.

Optimism is doing a phenomenal job as a Layer 2 for Ethereum, making the network faster and cheaper. Got some great competition though... We'll see

Optimism has Total Value Locked (TVL) of around $2 billion. By prioritizing ecosystem support and rewarding active users and creators with airdrops, Optimism is one of the best community-focused platforms. However, the fact that the token $OP has not yet endured a full bear market cycle and the aggressive token vestings pose significant challenges to $OP price movements. Arbitrum, Optimism, and ZkSync are among the strongest Ethereum Layer 2 projects. Yet, it's important to acknowledge that competition in this space is intensifying, with several new Layer 2 projects being announced frequently.
