PancakeSwap (CAKE) Review: OG Score & Community Audit

The developers launched PancakeSwap v4, introducing customizable Hooks and a Singleton architecture that drops pool creation costs by up to 99%. They also aggressively expanded the protocol across 10 different blockchains to capture global liquidity.
More importantly, the tokenomics have been completely fixed. In January 2026, the community voted to slash the maximum supply from 450 million down to 400 million CAKE. Because of aggressive fee burns, the protocol has been burning more tokens than it mints for 29 consecutive months, making it heavily deflationary. The market is currently ignoring legacy DEX tokens, but this is a highly profitable, structurally sound asset that is actively shrinking its own supply.

PancakeSwap's biggest strength in this audit is not its brand or its huge historical user count; it is the amount of economic activity that can actually be measured today. Roughly $2.04B sits in the protocol, around $17.64B moves through its DEXs every 30 days, and DeFiLlama attributes about $2.07M of monthly protocol revenue to it. That gives PancakeSwap a real operating engine rather than a token built around future promises.
CAKE has also undergone a serious tokenomic repair. The maximum supply is now capped at 400M, while June 2026 produced 2.4M burns against only 653K new emissions, continuing 34 consecutive months of net supply reduction. PancakeSwap's enormous protocol volume does not automatically belong to CAKE holders. Much of the economic value remains inside the protocol, liquidity providers and treasury mechanisms, while CAKE mainly benefits through burns, staking utility and ecosystem demand. The protocol is also heavily dependent on BNB Chain, which accounts for about 96.5% of TVL.
The other uncomfortable fact is the price history for CAKE remains about 96.8% below its $43.96 ATH. The old inflation heavy CAKE model clearly destroyed enormous token value, and the current deflationary model has not existed long enough to prove that it can fully reverse that history. Still, the evidence today is very different from a weak DeFi token. PancakeSwap has actual users, actual volume, actual revenue, active development and measurable token burns.

From my experience looking into PancakeSwap, it’s easy to see why it’s become one of the go to decentralized exchanges on BNB Chain. The low fees and wide range of DeFi features make it practical for everyday swaps, liquidity provision, staking, and yield farming. That said, digging a bit deeper also shows the trade offs that come with open DeFi. While the core smart contracts are audited and generally reliable, the fact that anyone can list tokens and there’s no customer support or KYC means users still face real risks from phishing links and scam tokens to impermanent loss and occasional routing surprises.

PancakeSwap remains one of the most popular DEXs on the BNB chain, offering low fees and fun incentives like NFTs. It’s stable and community-driven, BUT finding new areas of innovation will be critical to maintaining relevancy
