Cronos (CRO) Review: OG Score & Community Audit

In 2021, Crypto[.]com publicly burned 70 billion CRO (70% of the original 100 billion total supply) to a dead address. They called it one of the "largest token burns in history" and marketed it as deflationary forever. Circulating supply dropped to roughly 27-30 billion. Price pumped hard. In March 2025, Cronos Labs drops Proposal 29 to reissue the full 70 billion CRO into a new "Cronos Strategic Reserve" escrow wallet. Most of the community voted NO. One snapshot showed ~48% yes Quorum was low ~23-33% turnout. But Crypto[.]com-controlled validators held 70-80% of voting power. They rammed it through with a slim yes majority. Proposal passed. Minted 70B tokens newly.  They did this right around the corner of upcoming Potential CRO ETFs announcement. This shows how centralized CRONOS and Crypto[.]com are.  By today, the Strategic Reserve is vesting monthly, adding consistent sell pressure on a ~43.6B circulating / 100B max supply token. Cronos having the back strong hold of Crypto.com it benefits from massive retail onboarding and a fully integrated exchange and blockchain model, which gives it a real-world usage advantage over many purely speculative chains. Although, its biggest weakness is centralization. The entire ecosystem is deeply tied to Crypto.com’s business performance and more of a corporate utility token. We got played. Hard. Team ignored 87% of voters and flipped a switch to create 70B new CRO out of thin air. No hack, just greed. I’d rather hold a memecoin at least they’re honest about being useless. 🚫

Look, CRO does have some gem potential, but it has some major red flags too. In particular, the "community governance" which was completely overwhelmed by the controlling vote of Crypto.com/Cronos themselves. Back in 2021, 70% of the token supply had been 'burned' - bringing the supply from 100 Billion down to 30 Billion. Mid 2025, that 70 Billion supply was put to vote; to be re-issued, due to a partnership between Crypto.com/CRO and Trump Media. Crypto.com is an easy to remember brand to onboard new users, and thus, CRO could be a good gem, but lets face it, it is very centralized, and when 233% of the supply can be reissued just because - red flag!

$CRO as a reliable EVM chain backed by Crypto.com’s huge user base, with real utility in DeFi, payments, and staking. What I can’t overlook is Crypto.com bringing back 70B burnt tokens against community votes. Man, this kills trust and shows how centralized it really is. Even so, its push into real-world finance, tokenization, and AI keeps me watching and on edge, though I’m skeptical about how far it can go without fixing that decentralization problem.

considering the value they bring to the Web3 space it's crazy high overvalued. but yeah still can pump since most oc CRO is held by team and insiders. but i'm out

Cronos benefits from strong backing by Crypto.com and seamless DeFi integration. But it often pumps, and then quickly dumps like crazy. If you missed BNB, then you missed BNB; this ain't it chief.

Cronos $cro is Crypto.com's open source layer 1 blockchain network. I think the ecosystem support and business development departments doesn't exist or not operating at all. can't forsee their next move
