I’m not here to cheerlead or deny NEAR’s capabilities tech as it’s live and active. But the real current unresolved issue governance controversy over overriding a failed vote puts credibility risk front and center. That debate matters far more than anything to me personally, which are annoying but not foundational. If you’re deeply invested or building on NEAR, watch how the governance norms settle in 2026. https://bingx.com/en/news/post/near-protocol-cuts-token-inflation-to-ignites-governance-controversy

I believe NEAR can still succeed if it brings in stronger operations and community leadership. Too many of the same long standing figures have remained in place for years, even after some cleanup. Who is going to take real responsibility and drive change, Illia or Alex? The current governance setup feels performative, and I do not see enough accountability. They should stop paying high monthly retainers to advisers who are not delivering measurable progress. I am interested in buying in the $0.10 to $0.20 range.

NEAR was built to make Blockchain faster and easier to use, especially for developers . The technology is solid and user friendly, which gives it a real chance to grow, However the Blockchain space is crowded and good tech alone is not enough. Its future depends on whether strong apps and real users continue to choose NEAR over other chains.

NEAR really nails the basics fast finality, low fees, Nightshade sharding, and wallets that are easy to understand make it super userfriendly, Chain Abstraction and Chain Signatures are great, especially with AI and apps that work across chains, and developers are definitely drawn to them, the tech and tokenomics are good, but the community and how many people use it still need to grow more. But don’t worry, if they keep doing a good job, NEAR has a great foundation to become even better over time.

NEAR really impressed me with Chain Signatures and the way it’s bringing AI into the mix to make cross-chain apps faster and easier to build. I can see why developers would be drawn to that, though I’m still not sure if it’s enough to stand out in such a crowded space, but if it actually delivers, NEAR could have a real edge.

About NEAR Protocol

NEAR Protocol $NEAR: An Informative Overview

Brief History and Project Origins

NEAR Protocol $NEAR was founded in 2018 by Alexander Skidanov and Illia Polosukhin to provide a scalable, developer-friendly blockchain addressing limitations of existing platforms. The project raised approximately $21 million in a 2020 token sale and launched its mainnet in April 2020. Since then, NEAR has grown into a Layer 1 blockchain that also acts as an execution layer for AI-native applications, supporting a wide variety of decentralized applications (dApps).

The team’s vision focuses on high scalability, cross-chain execution and user accessibility, aiming to power AI applications while maintaining simplicity for developers and users alike.

Key Technical Features

  • Sharding (Nightshade): NEAR splits the network into shards to process transactions in parallel, dramatically increasing throughput and reducing latency—up to 100,000 transactions per second. Each shard handles computations independently, making NEAR suitable for high-demand applications, including AI workloads.

  • Consensus Mechanism (Proof-of-Stake + Doomslug): Validators stake $NEAR to secure the network, producing fast blocks while ensuring decentralization and energy efficiency.

  • Developer-Friendly: NEAR supports Rust and AssemblyScript, with simple SDKs, human-readable account names and tools that reduce barriers for developers deploying AI and other dApps.

  • User Experience: Seamless onboarding and wallet creation without complex private keys, enabling easy access for new users.

  • Cross-Chain Interoperability: Bridges allow wrapped tokens and AI assets to move across other chains, including Ethereum, enabling cross-chain AI execution.

Real-World Use Cases

  • AI Applications: NEAR acts as an execution layer for AI-native apps, supporting machine learning models, decentralized neural networks and AI marketplaces.

  • DeFi: Lending, borrowing and trading applications benefit from NEAR’s high throughput and low fees.

  • NFTs: Platforms like Mintbase and Paras utilize NEAR for efficient, user-friendly NFT creation and trading.

  • Gaming: Scalable for high-traffic blockchain games, enabling fast transactions and tokenized asset ownership.

Tokenomics of $NEAR

  • Staking & Governance: Validators and delegators stake $NEAR to secure the network and participate in governance.

  • Transaction Fees: Paid in $NEAR, creating natural token demand.

  • Developer Incentives: Grants and ecosystem support encourage project adoption.

Community and Developer Ecosystem

NEAR’s ecosystem is supported by:

  • Active Developer Community: Open-source contributions, SDKs and grant programs.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Integration with DeFi platforms, NFT marketplaces and research initiatives.

  • Governmental Engagement: Collaborations exploring regulatory-compliant blockchain use cases.

Recent Updates and Developments (2025)

  • Inflation Reduction Proposal:

What does inflation reduction proposal of Near Community mean?

The proposal by HOT and LiNEAR suggests halving NEAR’s yearly inflation from 5% to 2.5%, reducing the daily issuance of new tokens (block rewards) and increasing scarcity.

When will inflation reduction be implemented?

If 2/3 (66.67%) of staked NEAR approve the proposal, developers will include the new inflation logic in the next protocol upgrade, potentially activating by late Q3 2025.

How does the proposal pass or fail?

Validators vote with staked $NEAR; delegators can shift stakes to align votes. The proposal fails if it receives less than 66.67% approval within the voting period. Progress can be tracked live by the community.

  • Protocol upgrades improving scalability and developer tools.

  • Cross-chain functionality allowing AI-native apps and tokenized assets to interact with other blockchains.

  • Inflation reduction proposal under community consideration, enhancing long-term token sustainability.
